War Over Birthright Citizenship Still Rages

To spread good news for once, Texas just gave Republican policy makers a much-needed win. Last week, Governor Abbot of Texas signed an executive order that goes farther than any policy maker has done to end ‘birth tourism.’ For everyone’s awareness, birth tourism is the term that has been applied to illegal immigrants who come to the United States to give birth in order to back door the immigration system.

For years now, liberal lawmakers have deliberately misinterpreted the 14th Amendment in order to flood the US with illegal immigrants. The 14th Amendment enacted after the War Between the States was meant to battle laws that curbed rights of black Americans by saying they were not allowed the full rights of citizenship as they were not considered citizens. The Amendment stated anyone born in the United States was granted full citizenship and was subject to the full rights and responsibilities herewithin.

The way the law has been applied recently has been all focused on immigration, an application in which it was never meant to be utilized. In this application, a child that is born to illegal immigrant parents is automatically provided citizenship due to being born in the United States which then makes it easier to bring family here under immigrant visas. This obviously poses a massive risk to the US as many illegal immigrants can gain citizenship just by having a child on the right side of the border. Under the law, an illegal can have a child the day they cross the border, and as soon as that child is born, the child gets automatic citizenship. This is a large reason why we have experienced astronomical numbers of illegal immigrants throughout the recent decades.

Governor Abbot however is dedicated to protecting the citizens of Texas. The New York Post reported in April of this year, “anchor babies reached 10% of overall births in the US in 2023.”[1] This means that 10 percent of all children born in the US were born to illegal immigrants in 2023. There were 3,596,017 births in the US according to the CDC; that would mean 359,601 children were born to illegal immigrants.

The warfare over this issue continues as 2 days ago, a Biden appointed judge blocked trumps executive order that tackled birth tourism at the federal level. US District judge Deborah Boardman blocked the executive order by a preliminary injunction on Wednesday this week rejecting the administrations defense.[2] Boardman is reported to have said, the administration’s argument was a “distorted interpretation” of the Supreme Courts ruling in June on birthright citizenship. Ironic considering the whole idea of birthright citizenship as it exists today is obviously a distorted interpretation of the 14th Amendment. How can anyone argue that allowing illegal immigrants to backdoor immigration policy is a threat to national security. It would allow anyone to gain citizenship no matter what their past is, not to mention its people who refuse to assimilate to American culture, people who routinely vote against American interests, and people who commit more crimes than the greater American population. It is dangerous to keep bringing in these people, but the left is determined to put Americans at risk if it allows them to keep power.

This executive order, Fox News reports, would give agencies in Texas permission to begin investigating potential birth tourism schemes within the healthcare industry.[3] Anyone suspected of being illegal and having a child in a Texas hospital will be investigated. It is imperative that we expose this fraud. We must protect our communities and this executive will be a force for good in Texas.
